In 1993, a small group of women formed the American Breast
Cancer Association with a big ambition. The mission of this grass
roots organization is to work towards making breast cancer a history
in our lifetime.
Our major concerns are:
-
To let every woman know that early detection of breast cancer makes
a big difference in the rate of survival.
-
To establish National Breast Cancer Centers accessible to all women
for breast cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment and research.
-
To provide funding for breast cancer research at the local,
state and national levels.
-
To provide reduced cost for mammography according to financial
needs.
Our year-round activities:
-
We provide free mammography to those women who do not have insurance
or cannot afford to pay.
-
We create public awareness by conducting Town hall meetings.
-
We educate by conducting seminars on breast cancer.
-
We lobby for the creation of National Breast Cancer Centers to State
and National Legislators through letter writing campaigns and the
collection of signatures.
-
We provide a support group for breast cancer survivors.
-
We raise funds by hosting events like the Pink Ribbon Run, Golf and
Tennis tournaments, Bike-a-thons, and Benefit Dinners.
